Kaine Meets With Arlington Family Impacted By Immigration Executive Actions »
U.S. Senator Tim Kaine met with the Orellana family of Arlington in anticipation of the oral arguments in U.S. v. Texas at the Supreme Court beginning April 18, 2016. The Orellana family is originally from Bolivia and is a mixed status family that stands to benefit from President Obama’s November 2014 executive actions on immigration – the Deferred Action for Children Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of American and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) programs. Wilson Orellana (dark grey jacket) now works at a company providing transportation for disabled Americans, while his wife Roxana Montano (purple shirt) is an active community member who teaches Spanish to children and helps lead the Swanson Middle School PTA. Their oldest daughter, Rebeca (black jacket), is a civil engineering honors student at George Mason University. Also pictured is their youngest daughter, Marisol (white shirt).

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, chairman of the Senate Career and Technical Education Caucus, attended a reception and career fair held in conjunction with the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and Project Lead The Way (PLTW). Students showcased and demonstrated projects that highlight the role of CTE and STEM in preparing tomorrow's workforce.

Discussing College Affordability & Student Loan Debt »
U.S. Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner hosted student leaders from 20 different Virginia colleges and univeristies to discuss their challenges paying for college and the impact of rising student loan obligations. Additonally, Kaine invited Richmond native and George Mason Univeristy student, Kalia Harris, to a Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee Roundtable on college affordability to share her story on student loan debt. Harris is a first generation college student who spoke about the $38,000 in student loan debt she will be facing when she graduates in May.

U.S. Senator Tim Kaine commemorated the life and legacy of Dr. King at the 2016 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Action in Richmond. Kaine joined local leaders to speak about Dr. King’s teachings and how they continue to inspire service and advocacy that strengthens communities.
