Inauguration Ticket Requests

58th Presidential Inaugural Ceremonies at the U.S Capitol

The 58th Presidential Inauguration will take place on Friday, January 20, 2017 on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol.

You don't need a ticket to visit the Mall and watch the proceedings, but there is a ticketed section closer to the Capitol. The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) allocates a limited number of tickets to Members of the 115th Congress for distribution to their constituents. Tickets are free and are for standing sections without seating areas.

Please note that the Presidential Inauguration Committee oversees and manages tickets for all other inaugural activities, including the inaugural parade and gala events.

To submit your ticket request, please click here or click on the "Inauguration Ticket Request Form" button below. Tickets will be distributed by a lottery system.

All tickets are ADA accessible and the event will have sign language interpreters, open captioning and audio description headsets. Please let Senator Kaine's office know if you or any member of your group has special needs or requires additional accommodations. We will do our best to accommodate your requests.

We will notify constituents in early January if their ticket request was fulfilled.

Please consider the following as you make your plans:

  • The inaugural ceremony at the U.S. Capitol is on the morning of Friday, January 20, 2017.
  • Due to security and street closings, attendees should arrive early, and anticipate crowds and cold weather. Ticket holders can expect to stand for 5-6 hours.
  • Congressional offices provide tickets for the West Front of the U.S Capitol. Please note the majority of the National Mall is open and unticketed for observers. Jumbotrons placed throughout the Mall allow visitors beyond the ticketed area to watch the swearing-in ceremonies.
  • You may request up to two tickets from Senator Kaine's office through the ticket request form. The deadline is Tuesday, January 10th. Ticket notifications will be sent the Friday, the 13th, of January.
  • Tickets must be picked up in person from Senator Kaine's Washington, D.C. office by 5:00pm ET on Thursday, January 19, 2017. If you are unable to make that deadline and need to make special arrangements, please call 202-224-4024. You will be required to present a photo ID to receive tickets.
  • No tickets will be mailed. No tickets will be distributed on the day of the Inauguration.
