Congressional Arts Competition Information

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent across the United States and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.  It is a privilege to promote the Congressional Art Competition each year so that the many talented high school students of the 20th Congressional District might be recognized for their artistic endeavors.

I strongly encourage all school districts to take advantage of this contest, and submit up to three entries to my office on behalf of their students. An independent panel of judges will determine our district’s winner, and runners up, who will be announced at our office’s reception, which takes place in May of each year.  The winner will then have their artwork shipped to Washington, D.C. for display in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Information regarding deadlines, the competition’s rules and regulations, as well as the date of my office’s reception for students, teachers, and their families will be provided by my office to each school district at the beginning of the calendar year. This information should be shared with students as soon as possible.

Any questions about the competition should be directed to my Albany District office, at 518-465-0700.

Additional information for students and teachers regarding the Congressional Art Competition is also available on the House of Representatives website.
