Congressman Pete King Warns of Debt Relief Scams

Congressman Pete King (R-Seaford) is warning constituents to be on the lookout for debt relief service scams targeting consumers with credit card debt by falsely promising to negotiate with their creditors to settle or otherwise reduce consumers' repayment obligations.

“These operations often charge cash-strapped consumers a large up-front fee or offer a payment plan, but then fail to help them settle or lower their debts,” Congressman King noted.

According to Rep. King, these debt relief scams can come in the form of a letter or phone call.
