WASHINGTON – Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH) issued the following statement on the Obama Administration’s decision to abstain from a vote condemning Israel at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC):

“Under President Harry S. Truman, the United States was the first country in the world to recognize the State of Israel in the spring of 1948.  Since then, our two nations have shared a special relationship rooted in shared values and interests.  The Obama Administration’s refusal to reject an anti-Israel resolution at the United Nations will not destroy our alliance.  It will only further stain an already shameful foreign policy legacy.  Thankfully, the incoming Trump Administration has signaled it is willing to do everything within its power to repair this critical friendship as soon as possible.”

Rep. Chabot is Chairman of the House Small Business Committee (SBC) and is a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Judiciary Committee.
