Congratulating the La Salle Lancers

Today, I spoke on the House Floor to congratulate my alma mater, La Salle High School, on winning its third straight Ohio high school football championship. The Lancers are the first three-peat Division II champions in the history of the Ohio playoff system.

Chabot Questions IRS Commissioner John Koskinen

2016 Congressional Art Competition

On Monday, my office hosted a reception to announce the winners of the 2016 Congressional Art Competition for the First District, as well as to honor all of the students who submitted artwork.
The overall winner was Hannah Ferguson from Cincinnati Christian Schools.
Her entry, a drawing with prisma colored pencils entitled "Fixing Myself," will be on display in the U.S. Capitol for one year, alongside winning artwork from other congressional districts across the country. Drew Brown from Elder High School finished second.
His artwork, "A Tale of a Whale," will be displayed in my D.C. office for a year. The Warren County Honoree was Alexis Jansen from Dayton Christian High School.
Her artwork, "Wolf," will be displayed in my Warren County office for one year. Our Hamilton County Honoree was Maria Heisel from Seton High School.
Maria’s entry, "Cincinnati Suspension Bridge," will be on display in my downtown Cincinnati office for one year as well. Congratulations to all of the students who submitted entries for the competition. The overall quality of the artwork this year was outstanding. Below are some additional pictures from the reception.
Chabot meets with Career Development Representatives
Posted by on March 6, 2016 Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting with representatives from two career and technical development centers from my district. Butler Tech and the Warren County Career Center help students become the skilled workers our economy depends on from medical assistants to police officers and mechanics. Thank you to both of them for coming to tell me more about their programs.  Butler Tech in Cincinnati is one of Ohio's largest career-technical schools. 
Dates Announced for the Congressional Art Competition

Monday, May 9th through Sunday, May 15th - Artwork will be on exhibition at Union Terminal, 1301 Western Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45203. Monday, May 9th at 6:00 pm.- The award ceremony will be held at Union Terminal. Wednesday, May 18th - Artwork can begin to be picked up at either of my district offices.

Since it's Christmas Eve, I thought I'd share a few photos from Christmases past. First, a picture from 60 years ago, Christmas 1955, when I was 2 years old. Since we lived in a trailer, our tree had to be pretty small.
Christmas 1973. Donna and I were married in June, so this was our first Christmas together.
Christmas 1974. Our dog Muffet liked the beard a lot better than Donna did!
Christmas 1979. Donna and I are on the left, my sister Carol is in green. My mom is in white, my brother Ron is in the back, and my brother Dave is in the front.
Christmas 1986. Fellow Cincinnati City Councilmember Ken Blackwell and I bringing Christmas cheer to kids at the Price Hill community center.

Holy Family School

This morning, I had the opportunity to speak to the seventh grade class at my old grade school, Holy Family. The students had some outstanding questions, and I really enjoyed hearing what they had to say. Thank you to the students, teachers and everyone at Holy Family for a great experience.
Recent Meeting Roundup

I've had several interesting meetings over the last week or so, and I thought I'd share some of the highlights.
Last week, Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley was in DC, and we had an opportunity to get together to discuss several sewer issues facing the City of Cincinnati.
Also, last week, I held a hearing in the House Small Business Committee to celebrate the contribution of entrepreneurs to America's economy on National Entrepreneurs' Day. Cincinnatian Chris Ostoich, Co-Founder & VP of Marketing of LISNR, Inc., testified at the hearing about the vibrant entrepreneur environment here in Southwest Ohio.
And this week, I met with Interim Police Chief Eliot Isaac, Assistant Police Chief Dave Bailey and Captain Doug Wiesman. During the meeting, we discussed a wide range of issues facing the Cincinnati Police Department, from equipment and technology needs to problems they're experiencing with certain public housing developments.
