Congressman Capuano's
E-UPDATE
An update from the office of U.S. Representative Michael E. Capuano
7th Congressional District of Massachusetts

Dear Friends,

The House is back for a lame duck session on Monday and many challenging issues await, including finalizing Fiscal Year 2017 appropriations. Pending Administration changes may also mean a flurry of activity so that no unfinished business awaits President-elect Trump and the new Cabinet.

It is an honor and privilege to represent the people of the 7th Congressional District. I think there will be difficult days ahead but I will try as hard as I can to work with the new President and his majorities in both the House and the Senate (and soon, the Supreme Court). Democrats represent almost half of the American people and Secretary Clinton won more popular votes than Mr. Trump. I think those numbers mean that the majority in Congress and the new Administration have an obligation to compromise in order to truly represent ALL of America. If they seek to govern in that spirit, I will work with them. However, if they decide to govern from the “hard right”, then as the Representative in Congress for the 780,000 people in the 7th Congressional District of Massachusetts, it will be my duty and obligation on behalf of the people I serve to protect their interests and advocate for their concerns as forcefully as I can. Only time will tell how the new majority will approach the many critical issues we face — but I don’t think it will take too long for all of us to know their path.

I thank you for subscribing to this newsletter and sharing your commentary.

Best,
Mike

Mike
