United States Service Academy Nominations
It is a pleasure to know that there are so many young people who aspire to academy training, and who will go on to become leaders in our nation's military. Attending any of the United States Service Academies is a great honor and a great responsibility. Continuing your education at one of these academies allows you to serve our nation, a true challenge and privilege.

To be considered for an appointment to one of the United States Service Academies, an applicant must have a nomination from his or her Representative, Senator, or the Vice President of the United States. As the Representative for California’s 21st District, I can nominate ten qualified applicants for each "slot" open at each academy. By law, I can only have five "charged" students attending each academy at any one time and the applicants must reside within the boundaries of California's 21st Congressional District.

To be eligible for a nomination, students must be:

• Citizens of the United States and residents of the 21st Congressional District of California
• At least 17 years old, but not have passed their 22nd birthday as of July 1st of the year of admission
• Unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents, and must be a U.S. citizen

Interested students should contact my Hanford office the second semester of their junior year in high school to request additional information. To be considered, interested students must submit a completed Academy Nomination Form and required information and materials to my office. Class of 2022 Applications will be accepted beginning September 1, 2017 and all applications must be submitted no later than November 1, 2017. Students may request their official SAT scores be sent directly to my office by using code "4156". Please note, incomplete applications may not be considered.

I have chosen to use the competitive method of nomination. With this method, I submit to each Academy an unranked slate of the most qualified applicants for each vacancy in my allotment. In other words, I nominate and the Academy selects the most qualified candidate to fill the vacancy.

Please keep in mind that the Service Academies recommend that students should contact the Academy of choice in the spring of their junior year and then apply for a Congressional Nomination during their senior year.
