Committees

Touching on his wide-ranging experience as a bank examiner, small businessman, and community banker, Blaine is a member of the House Financial Services Committee and is a member of the House Small Business Committee.

The House Financial Services Committee has jurisdiction over the nation’s financial services and housing sectors including banking, insurance, real estate, public and assisted housing, securities, and domestic and international monetary policy. The committee is responsible for reviewing the laws and programs of the Federal Reserve Bank, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, among other federal government agencies.

Blaine has been named the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit. The jurisdiction of the subcommittee oversees all financial regulators including the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, the National Credit Union Administration, and the Comptroller of the Currency. It also oversees all matters pertaining to consumer credit including the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, the Consumer Credit Protection Act, and overall access to financial services. The Subcommittee is also charged with overseeing the safety and soundness of the U.S. banking system.

Blaine serves as the Vice Chairman on the House Small Business Committee. In addition, he serves on the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Energy and Trade and also the Subcommittee on Health and Technology.
