Marsha Blackburn brings her diverse background as a wife, mother, grandmother, and small business owner to bear on her public service. Her experience keenly informs her approach to family issues. Congressman Blackburn knows the tough choices that working families have to face every day. She also knows that large and intrusive government often makes families problems harder, not easier.

Congressman Blackburn is a leading advocate for pro-life policy in the U.S. House of Representatives and is dedicated to preserving the traditional institution of marriage. Following the Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision to strike down same-sex marriage bans in Obergefell v. Hodges, Congressman Blackburn signed on as an original cosponsor of H.R. 2802, the First Amendment Defense Act. This legislation ensures the government cannot interfere with religious activity or discriminate against people who oppose same sex marriage in terms of tax treatment, grants, contracts, accreditation, employment and benefits. Congressman Blackburn has sponsored legislation protecting the unborn every year during her tenure in Congress.

After the release of several disturbing undercover Planned Parenthood videos, Congressman Blackburn called for immediate action from the Department of Justice, including investigations and freezes on all federal funding. She offers unwavering support in the fight for life and protection of the unborn. In addition, she believes that a society that values a culture of life must remain equally dedicated to promotion of adoption, and has supported efforts to ease bureaucratic restrictions on qualified Tennessee families interested in opening their homes.
