The House passed the SKILLS Act over a year ago to get job-seeking Americans ready for 21st Century careers. The Senate still hasn't acted.

Great to visit our troops stationed abroad last week. We can't forget we still have men and women serving overseas.  #troops #military #veterans

Last week, as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I traveled to #Afghanistan and Africa to visit our service men and women and observe our policies in action firsthand. The trip provided valuable insight on a lot of the issues we consider in Washington DC but you can’t quite appreciate from a committee room. More to come on the trip later this week. #troops

I’ve heard from Ohioans across the 2nd district, including communities on the Ohio and Little Miami Rivers, that the current flood insurance regime is unworkable. FEMA has hindered current reform with faulty flood maps and by failing to adequately communicate steep rate changes to homeowners.

Tonight, the House passed the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act, which is commonsense legislation that protects Ohio’s river communities. The National Flood Insurance Program must move towards solvency, which tonight’s bill accomplishes, while giving current homeowners the flexibility to adapt to the new rates.

The Obama Administration has proposed a 3.55% cut to Medicare Advantage for 2015, based on cuts put in place under Obamacare. In the 2nd District, tens of thousands of seniors participate in this popular program, and could see their networks shrink or costs increase.

Read how many seniors are in the program in your county:

As many of you know, the 2nd district has a rich history of veterans who selflessly served out nation. This week, one of them was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery, Tom Magee. I had the honor of welcoming his family to Washington and honoring his life on the House floor.

Please take a moment to hear about what Tom gave for our country:

Honored to introduce National Commander Joseph Johnston, of the Disabled American Veterans, before a joint hearing of the House and Senate Veterans Affairs Committees today. Commander Johnston is from Williamsburg in the Second District, and a tireless advocate on behalf of veterans.

A new report, directly from the Obama Administration, reveals that two-thirds of small businesses will see premiums spike under Obamacare. That’s nearly 11 million Americans, and that’s not what the government should be in the business of doing. Read the full report here: http://go.cms.gov/1eqkGoG
