Each spring, the Congressional Institute and participating Members of Congress sponsor An Artistic Discovery, a nationwide high school visual art competition that recognizes and encourages artistic talent in each congressional district. Since the pilot competition in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.
The annual Art Competition is open to all high school students currently LIVING in the First District. The winning submission will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year and viewed by visitors and dignitaries from all over the world.
Each student must complete the Student Release Form to submit with his or her entry.
All entries for the Congressional Art Competition must be submitted to any of my congressional offices by 5:00 p.m. on April 15, 2016.
RULES: All entries must meet the following criteria:
- Entries should adhere to the theme, “America the Beautiful”
- Be two dimensional
- Be no larger than 28 inches wide by 28 inches tall by 4 inches thick when framed
- Weigh no more than 15 pounds, including frame
- Be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws
- The Student Information and Release Form must be attached to the back of the artwork
The winner will be announced by May 3, 2016 and the reception in Washington, DC will be in June (Date TBD).
