Washington, D.C. – Representative Daniel Webster, FL-10, issued the following statement today after voting in support of H.R. 5303, Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2016.

“Throughout my public service, I have advocated for policies that support local projects and find solutions that preserve and protect Florida’s precious natural resources, while balancing the needs of our growing economy.

“The legislation passed today provides approval for the widening and deepening of Port Everglades, the culmination of a 20-year effort to prepare the port to receive larger cruise and container ships.  Also included in this legislation is support for a suite of projects to further restore Central and Western Everglades and address the algae proliferation in South Florida. In addition, the bill authorizes a comprehensive southeast coastal resilience study designed to help communities better understand and prepare for future flood and storm risks.

“I look forward to working with our colleagues in the Senate to develop a Conference Report that invests in infrastructure, supports our critical water resources and protects our country’s natural resources.”

Webster currently serves as a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. For more information on WRDA 2016 visit http://webster.house.gov/legislation/water-resources-development-act-of-2016.htm
