Internships

Thank you for your interest our internship program.  Internships in the Washington D.C. and District offices are a unique opportunity for students to experience government firsthand, while serving the people of Florida’s 11th Congressional District.  Interns in the Washington office will work alongside experienced staff, while responding to constituent requests, assisting in legislative research, and welcoming guests.  Interns in the district office will assist District staff and gain extensive experience in constituent outreach.  For more information on how to submit an application, please see the FAQ below: 

Who can apply?
I encourage all college students interested in government and public service to apply.

What kind of internships are available?
Part-time and full-time internships are available throughout the year. Internships during the school year will last a full semester.  Summer internships are also available.  Our staff is more than willing to work with applicants requesting credit for their internship through their school or university. 

Where are internships offered?
Internships are available in the Washington D.C. office and in the district office.

What activities does an intern perform?
Interns will work in a fast-paced congressional office, gaining valuable experience and knowledge of the legislative process and constituent service.  Washington, D.C. interns work closely with professional staff on a variety of legislative projects and are also assigned important clerical tasks.  Responsibilities include attending hearings, briefing and lectures, helping process tour and flag requests, handling incoming mail, giving visiting constituents tours of the Capitol, and performing general office duties.  Interns in the district office concentrate on organizing events and assisting with constituent outreach.

Where do interns live?
Several universities in the Washington area offer housing for interns during the summer. Rental apartments are also available in the surrounding area.
