Rep. Tom Graves Votes to Slash Government’s Regulatory Powers

Washington, January 5, 2017 - Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) today voted for and the House passed the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act (H.R. 26), also known as the REINS Act. The bill, which was introduced by Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA-09) and cosponsored by Rep. Graves, requires congressional approval of agency regulations estimated to cost the economy $100 million or more.

“Doug Collins’ bill is a commonsense check on executive power, which is why Republicans in Congress have been pushing it for years,” said Rep. Graves. “Under President Obama, we’ve seen the severe consequences of an administration that unilaterally implements major regulations that kill jobs and crush economic growth. This legislation will give Congress the ability to stop any regulation estimated to cost the economy $100 million or more before it takes effect. I urge President-elect Trump to sign this important legislation once it reaches his desk.”
