The Famous Route 66

America's favorite highway, Route 66, crosses Texas District 13 from the Oklahoma stateline on the east to the Oldham County - Deaf Smith County border, a few miles from the New Mexico stateline on the west.  Virtually the entire Texas leg of Route 66 is in District 13, including the towns of Shamrock, McLean, Groom, Bushland, Wildorado and Vega and the city of Amarillo.  Crossing Wheeler, Gray, Carson, Potter and Oldham Counties Route 66 in Texas District 13 retains a strong sense of time and place from the mid-20th century and its automobile heritage.
