  • Continuing the Fight Against Federal Overreach
Posted in Mullin' It Over Column on January 5, 2017 | Preview rr

The 115th Congress took the oath of office on January 3rd. This marked the beginning of a new and unified government that is tasked with building a better America. During the 114th Congress, I wrote legislation to stop the vast overreach of the Obama Administration. The Preventing Overreach Within the Executive Rulemaking System (POWERS) Act makes sure federal agencies can’t finalize overreaching, unlawful regulations that are contrary to the law and congressional intent. The bill requires a fed... Read more

Across Oklahoma and the rest of the country, medical innovation has lagged over the past few decades. Last week, Congress came together to pass legislation to reverse that trend. With the passage of the 21st Century Cures Act, the medical field will receive a major shot in the arm. First and foremost, this bill will save lives. It speeds up production of life-saving drugs to fight diseases like Alzheimer’s, cancer, and a number of other rare diseases. It removes bureaucracy within the Food and D... Read more

On December 7, we will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. An attack that lasted just 110 minutes left 2,335 U.S. service members dead and another 1,143 wounded. The next day in an address to a Joint Session of Congress, President Franklin Roosevelt called December 7, 1941: “A date which will live in infamy.” I believe those words still hold true today. After that surprise attack, the United States entered the Second World War, sending 16.1 million Americans ... Read more

As we enter the holiday season with Christmas less than one month away, we are reminded to count our blessings and give thanks to the many generosities in our lives. We might be thankful for our family, our friends, our faith, our homes, or our jobs. Many of us are thankful for our good health – but all Oklahomans are paying the price of increased healthcare premiums, regardless of health. Obamacare has burdened families across Oklahoma and this country. The Affordable Care Act, better known as ... Read more

  • Adoption Made My Family What It Is Today
Posted in Mullin' It Over Column on November 21, 2016 | Preview rr

As the adoptive father of two beautiful, nearly-six year old twin girls, adoption is near and dear to my heart. Last Saturday, November 19, was National Adoption Day and this November is National Adoption Month. What better a time than now to celebrate the joy adoption brings and raise awareness of the necessity of adoption within our country. In the spring of 2013, our Mullin family of five got a little bit bigger. But our decision to adopt, like so many adoptive parents’ decision, wasn’t made ... Read more

  • New Bill Would Curb 11th Hour Overreach

With a new President-elect, the 115th Congress is bringing a new look to Washington. While the Obama administration had hoped for a Democrat to hold the White House after his time in office, now he is poised to try and rush through as many midnight regulations as possible. A midnight regulation is a regulation that is issued as a presidency comes to an end. Since these regulations are rushed through during the last couple of months of the year, they often do not get the level of scrutiny they de... Read more

  • Every Day Should Be Veteran’s Day

This week, we have the opportunity to honor all the brave men and women who have served in our Armed Forces. It is because of this small group of dedicated people that we live in a free country, and we owe 100% of our freedoms to this small group of individuals. I am a firm believer that honoring those who served should not be limited to one day in November. We should go out of our way to thank those who have worn the uniform for making that sacrifice on our behalf much more often. I have been l... Read more

  • New DOL Rule Will Hurt, Not Help

During this district work period, I have had the honor of meeting with people from all walks of life across eastern Oklahoma. At almost every stop I brought up the new Department of Labor Overtime Rule, and a lot of people hadn’t heard of it. When the Obama administration came up with this rule, it gave everyone in the country only six months to comply. Apparently that wasn’t even enough time to educate the public about the rule’s consequences. The new rule requires employers to make a decision ... Read more

  • Obamacare Premiums Impact Oklahoma Families

The Obama administration recently told the American public that they would see an increase in premiums across the 39 states that are served by the federally run online market. The average rise will be about 25 percent, but Oklahoma will face an increase on average of 76 percent. To make matters worse, there will only be one provider left in the market in Oklahoma next year. The current health insurance law demonstrates yet another broken promise to the American people by President Obama. And jus... Read more

  • Don’t Be Complacent

Growing up, I always liked a challenge. I liked being pushed outside of my comfort zone because I knew that was the only way I would ever grow as a person. There are times in my life that I start to feel like I am just going through the motions, and any time I start to feel like that, I want to make a change in order to challenge myself. I hate feeling complacent, and taking action is the only way that I know how to change it. In all of our lives, it is often too easy to fall into a rut. You fin... Read more
