The United States Service Academies have educated some of our nation’s finest leaders. Considered to be among the top academic institutions in the country, these schools produce some of our Nation's best and brightest.  One of my most gratifying duties is to nominate young men and women from the 11th Congressional District of Virginia to service academies.  As a Member of Congress, I can make what are referred to as “Congressional Nominations.”

Nominations

To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, an applicant must meet the eligibility requirements established by law and be nominated by an authorized nominating source including a Member of the United States Senate or the House of Representatives, the Vice President of the United States, and if eligible, the President of the United States. I may nominate applicants who meet the eligibility requirements and are legally domiciled within the boundaries of the 11th District of Virginia.

To assist me in selecting the most qualified candidates, I have formed Advisory Boards to interview prospective nominees during the months of November and December.  My Advisory Boards are comprised of Academy graduates, former academy admissions officers, and/or career military officers.  Please note, interviews will only be scheduled for applicants who have submitted a complete application package to my office.  A detailed interview schedule will be announced at a later date.

Who Is Eligible?

• An applicant for a nomination must meet the following eligibility requirements as of July 1 of the year of admission to a service academy.

• Applicants are required to be between the ages of 17 and 22

• Applicants are required to be citizens of the United States

• Applicants must be unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents
