Washington D.C. Internships
Interns in my Washington office will have an opportunity to learn about the legislative process and the federal government by working closely with my legislative and communications staff. While on Capitol Hill, interns complete a variety of tasks including corresponding with constituents, conducting Congressional Capitol tours, drafting legislative items and attending briefings. Interns get a wonderful opportunity to see politics from a very personal level.

What past interns have said about their experience:

"My internship in the office of Congressman Burgess was an amazing experience that allowed me to explore and learn about the legislation and issues that matter most to me and the Constituents of the 26th District. The Congressman and his staff have designed a unique program which allows you to complete a variety of legislative and administrative tasks under the supervision of every staffer. I learned far more about the legislative and policy process during my time in DC than I ever could have learned in any classroom. The time I spent living and working in DC is something I will never forget and it would not have been worthwhile without the opportunities I was given on and off the Hill." – Nathan Edgerton, University of North Texas

“No amount of daydreaming could have prepared me for the incredible reality of working with Congressman Burgess and his staff. Everyone in the office went above and beyond to make this an experience I would never forget. When I applied, I had every intention of being nothing more than a mail-sorting, phone-answering gofer. Instead, I had the opportunity to learn and develop skills that will follow me through the rest of my life. Not once did I feel like a typical intern in Congressman Burgess’ office. My first day on the job, I was treated as an integral part of the team. The staff quickly identified and utilized my strengths, while also giving me the chance to grow in some of my weaker areas. This internship forever changed my life. I have always been a dreamer, but now I know that even my wildest dreams were too small. More than ever I believe in the idea of America, and through this experience, I feel sure that I can surround myself with brilliant, hardworking people and together we can effect change.” – Elizabeth Eppler, Texas Tech University
