Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) has been named a winner of the 2015 Taxpayers’ Friend Award by the National Taxpayers Union (NTU).
Rep. Jordan was one of two representatives for Ohio who received an “A” in the 2015 Congressional Rating by NTU, given for his strong voting record on behalf of lower taxes, limited government and economic freedom for all Americans.
Since 1979, NTU has analyzed every roll call vote affecting fiscal policy. The “Taxpayer Score” is based on how each Member of Congress has addressed issues like federal spending, taxes, debt and regulations. Last year,141 Senate and 267 House votes were included in NTU’s scorecard. Only 14 Senators and 43 Representatives won the 2015 award.
Of winning the award Rep. Jordan said:
“It’s an honor to receive the National Taxpayers Union Foundation’s award, and a privilege to fight for lower taxes on behalf of my constituents and Americans everywhere. Congressional spending is out of control, and the answer is to reduce the size and scope of government, not increase the tax burden on our nation’s citizens. I’m proud to stand with NTU and to remember and fight for the needs of everyday Americans.”
Pete Sepp, president of NTU made the following comments about the award:
“Winning the Taxpayers’ Friend Award is no easy feat. It takes a daily commitment to cast principled votes that put the Americans who pay government’s bills first. Congressman Jordan has proven he has what it takes to help make Washington work for taxpayers again.
“Jordan’s pro-taxpayer score of 85 percent was one of the best on all of Capitol Hill. Through his consistent voting record, Rep. Jordan showed his colleagues the way to lower deficits, less burdensome taxes, and a stronger economy. If every Member of Congress had voted as conscientiously as Congressman Jordan did last year, taxpayers could have looked forward to a much more prosperous future.”
The NTU annual rating has been referred to as the gold standard for fiscal scorecards, since it encompasses all votes that affect taxpayers. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have praised the consistent standard and integrity that the “Taxpayers’ Friend Award” represents, and the rating continues to serve as a benchmark for fiscal accountability.
