Inauguration Day: Friday, January 20th 2017

As a service to Third District constituents, every four years I am proud to distribute a select amount of tickets to folks who are interested in attending the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony.

Tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.  The requests have now exceeded the number of my office's available tickets.  Therefore, our ticket requests are now closed.

If you have already requested tickets, a member of my staff will contact you to let you know whether or not tickets are available.

If you are interested in learning more about the inauguration, read on for more information.

A Brief History of the Inauguration Ceremony

The Presidential Inauguration Ceremony marks the new four-year term of a president of the United States of America.  Since the Twentieth Amendment was ratified on January 23, 1933, Inauguration Day has been held on January 20th (or 21st if the 20th is a Sunday).

The Constitution states that the president must make the following oath before beginning the execution of the Executive Office:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Other traditions in addition to the ceremony have taken hold over the years, including parades, a luncheon at the U.S. Capitol hosted by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC), speeches, and balls.

How to Apply for  Ceremony Tickets

REQUESTS ARE NOW CLOSED.

* Each Congressional office is given a limited number of tickets.  My office offers tickets on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Requests have exceeded the number of available tickets, thereby closing the request period for my office.

**  If you receive tickets from my office, please be aware that they are only for the Inauguration Ceremony.

Deadline for Ticket Pick-Up:

  • Thursday, January 19th, 2017: all reserved tickets must be picked up by this date in my Washington, D.C. office no later than 5:00 pm.

HOW TO PICK UP CONFIRMED CEREMONY TICKETS

If you previously submitted a request for tickets, you should have been taken to a confirmation page letting you know your request was received.  This was not a confirmation that your request was approved.  A staffer from my office will follow-up with your request and let you know whether or not tickets are still available.

If a staffer confirms your ticket request, you must pick up your tickets in my Washington, D.C. office no later than Thursday, January 19th at 5:00 pm.  (The office will be closed on Inauguration Day.)

The tickets must be picked up by the person who submitted the request, and they must present a valid ID upon pick up.

(Please note that tickets may NOT be picked up in my Plano office.  This is due to the fact that there will not be sufficient time for tickets to be mailed and picked up before the deadline.)
