Recognizing Our Local Heroes This Veterans Day

As Veterans Day approaches, many around the valley are getting ready to honor our local heroes. Here are just some of the things happening:

Veterans Week
Derfelt Senior Center, 3343 W. Washington Ave.
Nov. 8 to 10
To honor those who served valiantly and heroically for our country, Derfelt Senior Center will host ‘Veterans Week!' 

Card Making
Tuesday, Nov. 8, 10 a.m.
$1 to attend.
Come make a greeting for a veteran!
Haircuts
Wednesday, Nov. 9, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A Cut Above Hair Studio will provide free haircuts for Veterans!
Veteran’s Lunch
Thursday, Nov. 10, 11:30 a.m.
$5 to attend. 
A Patriotic - Veterans luncheon will be held. A remembrance table for POW/MIA’s will be on display.

Veterans Parade
Friday, Nov. 11, 10 a.m.
Downtown Las Vegas, 4th Street from Charleston Blvd. to Ogden Ave.
The largest Veterans Parade west of the Mississippi is held in Las Vegas!

Heroes Day
Saturday, Nov. 12
9:30 a.m. Rebel Block Party, 12:30 p.m. Kickoff
Sam Boyd Stadium
UNLV is honoring all heroes in the community during the football game against Wyoming. All military, emergency responders and support services can purchase $9 tickets online & in-advance of the game by using the code RESPONDER. The code expires at noon on Nov. 11 and can only be used at unlvtickets.com.

Additionally, we offer adaptive sports opportunities for Veterans and members of the Armed Services all year. We were recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Nevada Department of Veterans Services to help pay for program registrations, new programs, equipment and supplies.  For more information about the grant opportunity, contact Bernard Preston at 702-229-4904 or bpreston@lasvegasnevada.gov.
