19 CONGRESSIONAL MEMBERS SUPPORT INDEPENDENT WOMEN’S FORUM’S WORKING FOR WOMEN COMMONSENSE COMMITMENT
Lawmakers Work to Build a Stronger, Healthier Economy – and Secure a Better Future for Americans, Particularly Women
Washington, DC – Independent Women’s Forum's report Working for Women: A Modern Agenda for Improving Women’s Lives is receiving extensive attention from lawmakers in Washington, DC.
Earlier this year, the Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) released a comprehensive policy report providing an alternative vision and a slate of specific conservative policy reforms to empower women by focusing on job creation, true workplace flexibility, and returning resources to individual women.
In conjunction with the report, IWF created the Working for Women Commonsense Commitment for public officials to show their support for this vision of addressing the challenges women face and creating more and better opportunities.
Now nineteen congressional members have added their support to the Working for Women Commonsense Commitment: Sen. Deb Fischer (NE), Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA), Rep. Andy Barr (KY), Rep. Marsha Blackburn (TN), Rep. Susan Brooks (IN), Rep. Mike Coffman (CO), Rep. Barbara Comstock (VA), Rep. Carlos Curbelo (FL), Rep. Renee Ellmers (NC), Rep. Lynn Jenkins (KS), Rep. Mia Love (UT), Rep. Martha McSally (AZ), Rep. Luke Messer (IN), Rep. Kristi Noem (SD), Rep. Lleana Ros-Lehtinen (FL), Rep. Elise Stefanik (NY), Rep. Ann Wagner (MO), Rep. Jackie Walorski (IN), Rep. Mimi Walters (CA).
“Their decision to support the commitment shows they want to change the ‘woman-as-victim’ conversation, and offer an alternative vision for helping Americans, especially women,” said Sabrina Schaeffer, IWF Executive Director. “This clearly demonstrates to their constituents their dedication to advance real changes that will empower women and help them pursue their own visions of happiness.”
A friend of IWF and supporter of the Commitment, Senator Deb Fischer (NE) said: “I look forward to working with [IWF] on shared solutions that will empower more women to pursue their goals and support their families.”
Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Chair of the House Republican Conference and first to support the Commitment, said, “The Independent Women’s Forum has been an invaluable resource in developing solutions to address the challenges facing working women. Women offer a unique, important perspective in determining public policy – IWF is shaping how to encourage more women to step up and live courageously.”
“The Working for Women Agenda is about encouraging a flexible, accessible workplace for everyone," said Rep. Luke Messer, Chair of the Republican Policy Committee. “Top-down mandates only discourage innovation and kill jobs. Instead, we need policies that empower working women with real options so they can make the best decisions for themselves and their families.”

IWF is encouraging all lawmakers – both Republican and Democrat - who recognize that women need more opportunity and a more dynamic workplace to support the Working for Women Commonsense Commitment.
