It was great to talk to students at Fremont High School - Fremont, MI this morning about the electoral college, the importance of voting, and the need to be active and engaged in their community.

This morning, I had the honor of joining the City of Muskegon Heights Mayor Kim Sims at the former Theodore Roosevelt School that is being redeveloped into affordable housing. It's great to continue to see positive developments in Muskegon Heights that will strengthen the community!

This morning I had a great meeting in Grandville with local radio and television stations who are part of the MAB - Michigan Association of Broadcasters. We discussed how recently proposed regulatory restrictions and tax increases would negatively impact West Michigan broadcasters. The local stations explained how ObamaCare and the Obama Administration's overtime rule are causing them to eliminate jobs or force hardworking employees who deserve full time employment to take part time jobs.

It has been recently announced that Michigan families on the #ObamaCare exchange will face a 17% price hike on November 1st. It was great to visit Bates Manufacturing yesterday to celebrate the groundbreaking for their new expansion allowing them to increase their capacity to support our troops. Our men and women in the military deserve the best American made equipment available. This morning I stopped by the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce to discuss the positive economic impact of tourism as well as the costly impact of EPA regulations on small businesses in Baldwin and across Lake County.

Great discussion today at New Holland Brewing The Knickerbocker on how overregulation and restricted access to credit is hurting small businesses, economic growth, and job creation. It was incredibly informative to have West Michigan small business leaders describe their challenges in the current regulatory environment. BREAKING - Moments ago I voted to override President Obama's veto that prevented victims of terrorist attacks on U.S. soil from bringing claims against foreign states and foreign officials. The President's veto was an extension of his foreign policy that has failed the American people and he is too tone deaf to understand it.

We cannot allow the very European bureaucrats who have crippled competition, stifled innovation, and ground economic growth to a halt in Europe the ability to assert regulatory control over American companies. I enjoyed meeting with Dr. Mark Eastburg, the President and CEO of Pine Rest today, to discuss how the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act offers real solutions for families and their loved ones who are facing a mental health crisis by empowering caregivers, increasing the number of mental health beds available at providers like Pine Rest, and driving evidence-based care. The Senate should act on this landmark legislation to modernize mental health care in America!

It is appalling that the VA has been unable to ensure our veterans receive the care they need in a time of crisis. Tonight, I voted with a bipartisan majority requiring the VA to develop a plan to help our veterans in need.
