Important Information for Your Visit

Located across Capitol Hill are the buildings and grounds of the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Supreme Court, and Library of Congress. Most of the buildings and grounds, such as the U.S. Capitol, are open and free to the public. However, for public safety, many buildings have restrictions on items that may be brought into the buildings.

Public Transportation

  • North Side of Capitol Hill (Senate Office Buildings)
    The north side of Capitol Hill is best reached via metro or rail through Union Station.
  • South Side (House Office Buildings)
    The south side of Capitol Hill is best reached via the Capitol South Metro.
  • East Side (Capitol Visitor Center, Supreme Court, Library of Congress)
    The Capitol Building rests at the center of Capitol Hill. The public entrance to the Capitol is through the Capitol Visitor Center, located beneath the East Plaza of the Capitol. This approach is served by the DC Circulator bus, and can be reached via Union Station or Capitol South Metro.   • West Side (U.S. Botanic Garden, Capitol Grounds Monuments, National Mall)
    The west side of the Capitol Building is next to the National Mall. The nearest Metro station is Federal Center Southwest.
