District Profile

The 31st Congressional District of Texas consists of Williamson and Bell counties. A resident of Williamson County for over 30 years, Congressman Carter brings a familiar perspective to a district with traditional conservative Texas values. From cutting edge technology at Dell computers to the world’s largest military installation, Ft. Hood, to the nationally recognized dairy farms, the 31st Congressional District of Texas is as expansive as the Texas sky.

Bell County
Fort Hood: Like the State of Texas, Fort Hood is big and boasts of being the largest active duty armored post in the United States Armed Services. Fort Hood covers a total of 339-square miles and is the only post in the United States that supports two full armored divisions. Fort Hood is nicknamed The Great Place because of the quality of life the post and area offer Soldiers and their families. 

Bell County Museum: Established in 1991, the Bell County Museum serves the community as a vital resource for the collection, interpretation and preservation of the historical heritage of the Bell County area.  

Cochran, Blair & Potts Museum: Come take a look around this museum which celebrates the oldest department store in the State of Texas.

Summer Fun USA: The 7 + acre water park is a real refresher during the legendary Hot Texas Summers. Drench yourself in the excitement at Summer Fun Water Park. Come and enjoy a trip down the ‘lazy river’ or slide down from a 40ft tower into a Texas sized pool. Guaranteed fun!

Edgewood Heritage Park Museum: Come have a look at how it was like back in the pioneering days at this outside museum. This outdoor museum encompasses 20 authentically restored and furnished structures representing rural life in East Texas from the 1800's to the 1920's.

1st Cavalry Division Museum: Come learn about the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood.

4th Infantry Division Museum: Come learn about the 4th Infantry division of Fort Hood at the Museum.

Mayborn Planetarium and Space Theater: Check out this exciting Planetarium which includes Sky Shows, Laser Light Shows, and Large Format Films.

Pace Park & Salado Creek: Come have a nice picnic and lay around in what is considered Texas’ first designated natural landmark.

Salado Silver Spur Theater: A step into the Spur is a step back in time, where you may see a great American stage comedy, an original melodrama, a silent-movie masterpiece with live musical accompaniment, or a live variety show featuring acts of vaudevillian virtuosity that will amaze, amuse, and mystify.

Czech Heritage Museum: The Czech Heritage Museum & Genealogy Center is dedicated to fostering educational, cultural, and genealogical opportunities, specifically as it pertains to people of Czech Heritage.

Miller Springs Natural Area: Visitors here can enjoy Hiking, Picnicking, Rock Climbing, Wildlife Observation, and Fishing.

Railroad and Heritage Museum: Learn how the old railroad system used to work.

Temple Lake Park: Come and enjoy the beautiful scenery at Temple Lake Park. Over 60 picnic sites and one reservable group area on the southern shore of Belton Lake. The lake provides some of the best fishing and boating in Central Texas and the park offers amenities for large groups of up to 80 people, such as flush toilets, showers, a playground, a swim beach and two two-lane boat ramps.

Williamson County
Austin Steam Train: Take a ride on the original steam train, the Austin Steam Train. Then hop off the train for a bit in Burnet, TX to shop around in this historic town.

Bartlett Area: Proudly retaining one of the largest groups in Central Texas of conjoined historical buildings and original brick streets. Bartlett's combination tempts your imagination to step back in time and enjoy the ambiance from another era.

Inner Space Cavern: Come and see a whole other world underground.

Veteran's Memorial Plaza: This memorial honors all Veterans who have served for our great country.

Williamson County Historical Museum:  The Williamson Museum collects and interprets items that promote the unique culture and heritage of Williamson County.

Hutto Heritage House Museum:Come and learn a little bit about the historic City of Hutto.

Palm House Museum: Take a look at a historic house that was purchased by Swedish Immigrants.

Round Rock Express: Enjoy a good ol' fashioned baseball game with this Triple-A Pacific Coast League.

Southwestern University:Located in historic Georgetown, it was the first institution of higher learning in Texas. Southwestern is an independent four-year undergraduate national liberal arts college chartered by the Republic of Texas in 1840.
