Boustany Announces Winner of Congressional Art Competition

Lafayette, LA – Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., MD, R-Southwest Louisiana, on Saturday announced Kallie Degatur of St. Thomas Moore High School in Lafayette was the winner of the 2009 Artistic Discovery Competition.
 
Her entry, titled “45th and 7th,” will hang in the U.S. Capitol for a year.  Kallie will receive roundtrip airfare to Washington, D.C. to display her winning piece.
 
48 high school students from across Acadiana and Southwest Louisiana participated. 
 
The 28th Annual Congressional High School Arts Competition, “An Artistic Discovery,” is a nationwide art competition dedicated to the boundless creativity, talent and unique expression of our country’s young people.  This competition is hosted by the U.S. House of Representatives, and each Congressional District conducts its own competition for all high school students who are attending a school within their district.
 
All of the winners and honorable mentions are listed below:
 
1st – Kallie Degatur – “45th and 7th” - St. Thomas Moore
2nd – Jade Boudreaux - “The Patient” - Beau Chene High School
3rd – Cayla Zeek – “Paint the Fence” - St. Thomas Moore
HM - Shannon Dionne - “Face in the Flowers” – St. Thomas Moore
HM – Christian Willis – “Untitled 1” - St. Thomas Moore
HM – Jaimee Knott – “Ruby” – Beau Chene High School
