Local Projects

As North Carolina's only representative on the Appropriations Committee, I have a particular responsibility to advocate for federal programs and initiatives that create jobs, expand opportunity, and improve the quality of life for our state's families, businesses, and communities. Over the years, I have helped secure funding for local projects such as the new North Carolina National Guard headquarters in Raleigh, the Environmental Protection Agency research facility in RTP, and major improvements to our region's highways and rail system. You can find descriptions of my project requests for Fiscal Years 2008-2011 below.

Since 2011, Congress has banned the practice of congressionally directed spending items, or "earmarks." Although this ban prevents me from advocating for funding designated to a specific local project or organization, I can still advocate for the annual budgets of federal agencies and programs, including the major research and grant-making programs that are critical to the North Carolina's economic future.

In this era of limited federal resources, it is more important than ever for me to know which programs my constituents rely on and care about so that I can advocate for them forcefully in the annual appropriations process.

You can now make FY17 Appropriations requests here. Please contact James Hunter at 202.225.1784 with any questions.

I also encourage you to visit my Help with Federal Grants page to learn more about funding opportunities at federal grant-making agencies.
