Van Hollen Statement on WMATA Report on Silver Line Derailment

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) incident report on the August 6, 2015 Silver Line derailment:

“It should not have taken a derailment for WMATA to identify the potential for human error in the track inspection process. This incident points to a broader lack of checks and balances and a deficient culture of safety at Metro. These are unacceptable safety lapses that simply cannot be tolerated in a system that more than 700,000 people rely on every day, including many of my constituents. I join every Metro rider in demanding nothing less than immediate action to solve the multiple problems outlined in this report.”
