The U.S. Capitol Smoke Control Project involves installing fans to upgrade safety control systems. To facilitate construction, temporary enclosures will be built on the roof of the Capitol.
The project is scheduled to be complete before the next Presidential Inauguration.

The AOC has identified areas throughout the Capitol that contain historic paint colors or decoration that need restoration. In many of these areas the plaster has cracked under the stress and weight of multiple paint layers, a result of decades of repainting wall and ceiling surfaces. These areas have been marked for paint analysis; a process that allows the AOC to record what finishes were used in the past before repairing the wall. The main entrance and exit doors to the Capitol Visitor Center will be replaced with doors that will be lighter and easier to open for visitors. The installations are scheduled in phases to minimize inconvenience to staff and visitors. During each phase of construction the doors being replaced will be inaccessible, but the remaining entrance and exit doors will be available for use. Temporary barriers will be erected to maintain building security and protect visitors. This project is scheduled to be completed by Inauguration 2017.

In support of the Dome Restoration Project trucks deliver equipment and supplies to the East and West Fronts of the U.S. Capitol between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. Flagmen direct pedestrians to use the sidewalk during the delivery process for safety. Additionally, a staging area has been established on the northwest lawn of the U.S. Capitol for the duration of the project.... More »

More »A project to modernize the overhead utilities and install new life safety systems in the tunnel between the Rayburn House Office Building and the Capitol Building is expected to last through 2016. The work includes installing fire alarm, sprinkler systems, energy efficient lighting and a new ceiling above the pedestrian walkway.

The Cannon House Office Building has not received a comprehensive systems upgrade since the 1930s, and many of the building's systems are original – dating back to 1908 or earlier. These systems are past the end of their useful lives and the increasing risk of their failure jeopardizes the building's long-term functionality and safety. Other necessary work includes upgrading infrastructure systems andrepairing the exterior stone façade.
