Moving Traffic Smarter

As many Central Floridians are all too aware, our urban traffic in the region is at capacity.  Highway 50, State Road 436, Highway 17-92, State Road 434 and other significant arterial roads have turned into parking lots. Since it is cost prohibitive to expand all of these roads, Mica and other local transportation leaders are looking at cost effective technologies to move traffic smarter.

In efforts to improve transit flows and ensure the best utilization of our roadways, Rep. Mica has undertaken an initiative to better integrate intelligent transportation systems (commonly referred to as ITS) into our transportation system. Through better signal coordinating, improved traffic management and other technology integrations, we can cost-effectively improve the local movement of traffic.

The Congressman has convened several meetings with local, state and federal transportation leaders to adopt best practices, to make Central Florida a leader and to provide a national model for the use of high tech and intelligent transportation solutions to cost effectively ease congestion in throughout Central Florida.
