Mica Announces $15 Million

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Congressman John L. Mica (R-Volusia) today announced that Technical Products Group, a defense contractor based in DeLand formerly known as Intellitec, is being awarded a $15 million contract by the federal government, with options that could total $20,543,204 if exercised.
"Recent events have shown us that our soldiers and citizens are still at risk, and DeLand’s Technical Products Group is a leader in the area of developing defense systems that can help provide some protection," Mica said.
The U.S. Army contract is for the procurement of 55 Joint Biological Point Detection Systems (JBPDS), spares and repairs, initial fielding package and new equipment training. This equipment will be attached to tanks for the detection of chemical and biological attacks against troop positions. The work to be performed in DeLand is expected to be completed by December 31, 2004.
Mica continued, "This contract award will greatly assist in creating jobs and sustaining the industrial base in DeLand and Volusia County."
