The Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Power heard testimony Tuesday, May 19, on upcoming legislation to address America's energy reliability and security. I questioned Gerry Cauley, North American Electric Reliability Corporation president & CEO, on how EPA's power plant regulations will impact Missouri's electric reliability.
His answer is concerning. He mentioned reducing generation from coal power plants, which power more than 80 percent of Missouri homes. He questioned whether the shift to natural gas would allow the supply to keep up with increased demand, especially in the winter. Watch below.
This is another reason why I am strongly opposed to EPA's power plant regulations and will continue working against their implementation.
Michael Bardee, director of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Office of Electric Reliability, testified as well.
