For decades, the Old Post Office in Washington, DC sat mostly idle costing taxpayers millions of dollars per year. Congressman John Mica (FL07) led efforts to turn an annual multi-million dollar loss into a multi-million dollar producing federal asset.
Through a competitive process, the Trump proposal was chosen. Located two blocks from the White House, over a thousand will be employed at the new hotel and commercial center.
From Rep. Mica’s report several years ago titled The Federal Government Must Stop Sitting on its Assets, this federal property will become a positive source of revenue for the federal treasury.
Congressman Mica joined Donald Trump, who won the contract to convert the Old DC Post Office from a drain on taxpayers to a revenue generating property.
"This is only one small step in stopping federal waste as thousands of vacant or underutilized government properties sit idle,” Congressman John Mica. “My goal is to maximize the use of vacant buildings and properties across the country, saving taxpayers billions."
