Huelskamp Joins Kansas Elected Officials to Send President Letter on Guantanamo

Dec 14, 2015
Press Release

WASHINGTON – Today Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) joined his Kansas congressional colleagues and city, county and state office holders in demanding President Obama not attempt his rumored illegal, unconstitutional transfer of radical Islamic terrorists being detained at Guantanamo to Fort Leavenworth.

For five years, Congressman Huelskamp has voted to block President Obama’s pledge to close the Guantanamo Bay prison. He has voted against using funds to transfer these dangerous detainees to the United States mainland or to build or modify a facility to house these detainees within the continental U.S.

Huelskamp gave the following statement on the letter:

“At a time when our nation should be working full-time against radical jihadists and securing our border from ISIS terrorists, it is shocking and incomprehensible that President Obama continues to explore closing Gitmo and bringing these terrorists to Kansas. Even his own Attorney General has made it clear: Obama has no authority to close Gitmo or transfer these radical Islamic terrorists into America’s heartland.”
