Press Release

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., gave the following statement tonight after the U.S. House of Representatives voted 342-85 to pass H.R. 5325, the FY2017 Continuing Resolution:

“Tonight, Congress passed a Continuing Resolution that accomplishes several important goals (Note: I would have voted yes, but I am in Arizona with my family for reasons stated yesterday). This legislation ensures that our nation will continue to fund efforts that help our veterans and cover our military construction costs. And I’m also pleased that it includes robust emergency assistance to combat the Zika virus. This action on Zika is long overdue, and it’s a shame that Congress failed to swiftly address this growing threat earlier in the year. When Congress reconvenes, I look forward to conferencing the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) with the Senate to ensure that important Arizona water projects such as Rio de Flag, which I’ve long been fighting for, remain in the final bill. I will also urge my colleagues to ensure that WRDA includes proper funding to deal with the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, a public health debacle that should outrage all Americans.”
