ICYMI: Kirkpatrick’s district activities criss-crossed Arizona

FLAGSTAFF – U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., just wrapped up a district work period that criss-crossed Arizona’s sprawling Congressional District One. In recent weeks, she has met with constituents, veterans, small-business owners, tribal officials and local elected leaders, among others.

Below are a few highlights by region:

NAVAJO COUNTY

Kirkpatrick met with leaders from communities including Show Low and Pinetop to discusseconomic development and infrastructure in the region. During her visit to the White Mountains, she also met with U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Indian Affairs officials to discuss fire prevention, the Four Forest Restoration Initiative and flooding issues caused by the Cedar Fire.

 

COCONINO COUNTY

Kirkpatrick participated in a tourism roundtable in Flagstaff to discuss how to increase opportunities for one of Arizona’s most prosperous industries. Topics included service industry growth, infrastructure spending and expanding flights.

Kirkpatrick met with the Northern Arizona Interfaith Council in Flagstaff to discuss ways to increase community dialogue and civic engagement on issues that have an impact at both the local and national levels. 

 

NAVAJO NATION

Kirkpatrick toured the five-star DaVita Dialysis Center in Tuba City to meet with medical staff and nurses. She was updated on the growing need for quality medical care on the Navajo Nation and the vital role facilities like this play in the surrounding community.

 

YAVAPAI COUNTY

Kirkpatrick visited Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott Campus, viewing the upcoming expansions to the campus and their innovative cyber-security program. While in Prescott, she also met with the Prescott Chamber of Commerce to discuss strategies forbringing jobs to Arizona and building a diverse, stable economy.

 

GILA COUNTY

Kirkpatrick met with local seniors at the Miami Senior Center and discussed issues affecting them such as protecting Social Security and Medicare and ensuring access to veterans benefits. While in the region, she also met with the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce and then with officials at Gila Community College’s Gila Pueblo Campus.

 

PINAL COUNTY

Kirkpatrick toured PanAridus in Casa Grande, a bio-agriculture company working to use plants found here in Arizona to develop a high-quality rubber alternative for American industry. 

 

PIMA COUNTY

Kirkpatrick visited the recently opened Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery at Marana, where she met with staff and paid her respects to our nation’s fallen heroes.
