Van Hollen Statement on DOJ Report on Baltimore Police Department

Aug 10, 2016
Washington, DC

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on the results of the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) investigation into the practices of the Baltimore City Police Department, which was initiated after the death of Freddie Gray last year:

“The Department of Justice report confirms the experience of far too many Baltimore residents and highlights the critical need to rebuild trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. This report is the first step in a process to reform systemic issues in the Baltimore Police Department, and I appreciate Commissioner Kevin Davis’s openness to working with the DOJ to improve training and accountability. We must move forward from this report to transform the practices of the Baltimore Police Department to regain the confidence of the community and improve safety for all residents.”
