Congressman Stephen Fincher

Representing the 8th District of TENNESSEE

Issues

Agriculture

Agriculture is at the heart of the 8th District of Tennessee. West Tennesseans can find every part of the farm-to-table process in our district. As a seventh generation farmer, I understand how important a strong, stable agriculture policy is to our district.

Christian Values

The founders of our nation included in their ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution a provision that protects the rights of the people to practice a religion they choose without interference from the government. Washington already meddles in the lives of Americans enough. As a Christian, I believe religious freedoms and expressions are part of the fabric of our country and should not be stomped upon.

Defense, National Security, Veterans, Foreign Affairs

Throughout the history of the United States, a strong national defense has been critical to the preservation of liberty at home. This chapter of our history should be no different, which is why I will work to ensure that all the branches of our military are provided with the tools they need to protect our freedom. Our nation owes an enormous debt of gratitude to those who make it their life’s work to serve in the military, and we need to make sure that they are well-equipped when they are deployed in defense of our freedoms.

Economy and Jobs

I believe that getting the economy back on track needs to be the number one priority of this Congress. Government needs to foster an environment where it is possible for small businesses to grow and create jobs both in Tennessee and across the nation. The answer to our economic problems is not more government spending.

Education

A one-size-fits-all education policy isn’t working for West Tennessee, and it isn’t working for America. No one in Washington understands what the educational needs are in West Tennessee better than West Tennessee families and teachers. That is why I will support education decisions being made at the state and local level, not in Washington.

Energy

High gas prices affect everyone. Energy prices heavily influence the economy in West Tennessee, and it is important that we support a comprehensive approach to energy production. I could not disagree more with those that believe in a very narrow limiting energy policy.

Financial Services

As a member of the House Financial Services Committee, I contribute to policies that directly affect our economy. With jurisdiction over banking, insurance, housing, and capital markets, the Financial Services Committee is uniquely positioned to focus on legislative polices that help create good-paying jobs, reduce regulatory burdens and put America’s economy on a long term path to prosperity.

Health

I believe that all Tennesseans must have access to affordable, high quality health care. Unfortunately, Obamacare has failed to achieve either of these goals. Many folks have experienced an increase in their premiums, limited choice in who their provider is and doctors that are forced to spend more time on paperwork than their patients.

Immigration

Like many people in Tennessee’s 8th District and across our country, I know our current immigration system is broken and in need of serious repair. We must take immediate action to secure our borders and enforce our laws. I support legal immigration and welcome people who come to our great nation to build their lives through our established citizenship process.

Second Amendment

As a member of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, I am a strong supporter of Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. I believe sportsmen, gun enthusiasts and citizens concerned for their personal safety should be able to exercise their Constitutional right to own and carry a firearm.

Tax Reform

Washington needs to get out of the way.  The average American deserves a better understanding of how they are being taxed and where their tax dollars are going. It is my belief that a more efficient and fairer system of taxation will help grow the economy by making the tax code work for families, small businesses and corporations.
