Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards’ (MD-4) amendment was considered as the Democratic motion to recommit to H.R. 3293, the Scientific Research in the National Interest Act. Rep. Edwards’ amendment would add “increasing the understanding of the causes and prevention of gun violence” to the list of topics considered to be in the national interest in the underlying bill. The motion to recommit was defeated by the Republican majority by a vote of 177-241.
