Press Release
Yesterday, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-46) spoke on the House floor in support of programs that will continue to help working families in America to overcome poverty.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-46) spoke on the House floor in support of programs that will continue to help working families in America to overcome poverty.

“Nearly 47 million people are living in poverty in the United States, more than tenfold the total population of Los Angeles,” said Rep. Sanchez. “No matter how hard these families work, and no matter how much these families save, these families are unable to get ahead.”

“These families struggle to feed themselves and their children, they struggle to save for a home, they struggle to live the American Dream that so many of us yearn for. This is unacceptable,” said Rep. Sanchez.

“That’s why I support expanding programs which will level the playing field and provide a social safety net,” said Rep. Sanchez. “Essential programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and the Free and Reduced Lunch Program serve specific vital community needs.”

“We need to bring legislation to the floor that will expand and strengthen these proven programs, instead of condensing and cutting them.”
