WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-46) today released the following statement in to recognize the signing of the landmark Paris Agreement on climate change on Earth Day.

Last year, leaders from almost 200 nations met in Paris at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference to discuss the future of environmental responsibility and set a global goal of reducing climate change.

“Stewardship of our precious Earth is an inherited and shared responsibility. The signing of the Paris Climate Change Agreement solidifies a strong belief that curbing climate change is a priority for our global agenda. I hope the signing of the Paris Agreement will build momentum for further concrete and sustainable joint efforts to halt global warming in its tracks. This commitment towards a cohesive global reduction of carbon emissions is crucial to preserve our planet for future generations.”

The Paris Climate Change Agreement creates a goal of keeping total global warming since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution to below 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Funds from both public and private sources to aid developing countries in securing clean energy pathways will be made available aiding in global reduction of greenhouse gasses.

“Our work towards reducing global temperatures will not stop with the signing of this agreement. I will continue to support policies which support the use of these technologies and aid the United States in becoming a flagship in clean energy use.”
