Economy and Jobs
As a representative for one of the most vibrant small business districts in the United States, Congresswoman Sanchez knows how important it is to help Americans start, build, and grow businesses that will strengthen our economy and increase global competitiveness. Small businesses employ 53 percent of our private work force and are responsible for 47 percent of sales in America. They are also responsible for 50 percent of our country's private gross domestic product.
Congresswoman Sanchez has been a longtime advocate for small business interests, fighting for small business loans and against tax increases that hamper economic growth. She strongly supported the economic stimulus package that continues to encourage investment and boost consumer confidence, all while maintaining the fiscal discipline that will keep long-term interest rates in check. These provisions will play an important role in ensuring business entrepreneurs can acquire the venture capital needed to expand businesses and create new jobs. She will continue to fight for the prosperity of small businesses in her own district, throughout Orange County, and in the state of California.
Congresswoman Sanchez also agrees that our current and future labor demand will be heavily focused on technology and innovation. In the State of California, jobs are directly related to the technology industry- nearly one in ten private sector workers are employed by a high-tech firm. Congresswoman Sanchez also believes that maintaining a free and open internet is important to enabling technology to grow to its fullest potential. She, however, believes that Congress can do more to expand broadband deployment to underserved areas and reduce costs for internet service.
