Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen joined State Senator Susan C. Lee, Delegates C. William Frick, Ariana B. Kelly, and Marc Korman, and Montgomery County Council Vice President Roger Berliner in requesting that the State Highway Administration (SHA) designate a section of River Road (MD 190) near Walt Whitman High School as a School Zone. This section of River Road has long been a safety concern, and was the scene of a tragic accident last year that cost the lives of three members of a Bethesda family.

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen announced that the Congressional App Challenge is open for submissions from high school students in Maryland’s 8th Congressional District. Students can create and submit their own original apps for mobile phone, tablet, or computer platforms. Apps will be judged by a panel of local community leaders engaged in STEM fields, and winners will have their apps featured on a display in the U.S. Capitol building.
