Fostering a patient-centered healthcare system.
One of my first actions when I arrived in Congress was to vote for repeal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare. I support repeal of ObamaCare, because the law is unworkable, unpopular, unaffordable and unfair.
Instead of ObamaCare, it is time for some real, patient-centered health care reforms. Specific reforms to improve our health care system include:
- Meaningful litigation and tort reform, so that doctors, nurses, hospitals and other providers are able to focus on what is needed in the exam room – not what is required in the court room.
- Allowing consumers the opportunity to shop and purchase health insurance across state lines.
- Providing equal tax and regulatory treatment for individuals and self-employed in the same way that employees are treated, affording greater fairness for all.
- Expanding health savings accounts and allowing health insurance portability.
- Converting federal Medicaid dollars to block grants to allow states greater flexibility and responsibility in taking care of the medical needs of the poor in their states.
- Encouraging greater personal choice and responsibility in health- and lifestyle-related decisions.

On Tuesday, The Separation of Powers Restoration Act, a bill cosponsored by Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01), passed the House. The Separation of Powers Restoration Act (SOPRA) seeks to restore the balance of power among the three branches as the Constitution dictates.
In 1984, the Supreme Court established the Chevron Deference, which gives agencies in the executive branch authority to interpret “ambiguous” laws.

WASHINGTON – Today Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) voted for H.R. 3762, Restoring American's Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act. The bill, which passed in the House 240 to 181, would repeal Obamacare funding, eliminate individual and employer mandates, and very importantly, stop taxpaying funding of mega abortion provider Planned Parenthood.

As the House passed two bills to protect unborn babies by placing a one year moratorium on Planned Parenthood and protecting infants born alive, Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) responded to President Obama’s threat to veto any bill that defunded Planned Parenthood and released the following statement:

Salina, KS – On Monday afternoon, Congressman Tim Huelskamp joined the Central Kansas Mental Health Center (CKMHC) leadership and other Central Kansas community leaders for the ribbon cutting of Genoa, a pharmacy on-site at the Health Center in Salina. The CKMHC serves Dickinson, Ellsworth, Lincoln, Ottawa and Saline counties.
The pharmacy specializes in the treatment of the severe and persistently mentally ill. Staff at the CKMHC work closely with Genoa pharmacy staff to provide integrated and convenient care to patients.
