Thune Statement Following Meeting With Jack Lew

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senator John Thune (R-S.D.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued a statement today following his meeting with Jack Lew, nominee for U.S. Treasury secretary:

“I appreciated the opportunity to sit down with Jack Lew today,” said Thune. “As our economy struggles to grow under the weight of a mounting national debt, it is important to understand Mr. Lew’s views on addressing federal spending should he be confirmed to this post. The next Treasury secretary must be committed to working with Congress to find bipartisan solutions that put this country back on a sustainable fiscal footing and get the economy growing again. I look forward to further discussing with Mr. Lew the urgent need to address the critical challenges facing this country at his confirmation hearing before the Senate Finance Committee.”
