Rep. Israel Joins U.S. Delegation to Attend Funeral of Shimon Peres

Washington, DC- Today, Congressman Steve Israel (NY-03) joins President Obama and a U.S. delegation traveling to Jerusalem to attend the funeral of former Israeli President Shimon Peres. Rep. Israel released the following statement before departing Washington:

“Shimon Peres was the finest example of a statesman this world has ever known. I met him many times; and on each occasion, I was awed by his vision for lasting peace. He was a fighter for his country and dear friend to the United States, and I am humbled to travel to Jerusalem to pay our nation's and my personal respects to our friend one last time."
