Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick

Representing the 1st District of Arizona

Art Competition

The national 2016 Congressional Art Competition is under way, and U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick invites high schools across Arizona’s District One to submit their students’ artwork.

Each spring, members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor this effort to recognize and encourage artistic talent in congressional districts across the nation. All high schools in District One are eligible to participate.

“Art is a perfect way to showcase the diversity of regions, cultures and voices across District One,” Kirkpatrick said. “I look forward to seeing the handiwork of talented students from every corner of our district.”

A winner will be chosen by a panel of judges from throughout Arizona to represent our district, and that student’s artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year alongside artwork from other winners nationwide. Runners-up artwork will be displayed in Congresswoman Kirkpatrick’s Washington D.C. and district offices.

More than 650,000 high school students have participated in the Congressional Art Competition since it was launched in 1982.

Entries are no longer limited to just two pieces per school and must follow all guidelines, contain all required materials and be received in any of our district offices or postmarked by Friday, April 15, 2016. To enter, please send the original artwork along with a completed application, a one-page description of the medium, and the background of the piece.
