Education

Educating our children for a vibrant tomorrow.

The 19th Congressional District is home to a variety of colleges and universities – public and private four-year institutions, quality community colleges, and trade and technical schools. I believe in education as the cornerstone of the American dream.  I believe we should support the pursuit of higher education as a way to develop Americans’ skills and boost our economy.

The Constitution grants states the powers not specifically given to the federal government.  This includes education.  I believe we need to give local districts and state governments greater flexibility and control over how they run their schools.  Regulations from the federal government automatically assume that every state is the same, every school district is the same, every classroom is the same, and every student is the same. That just isn’t the case. It’s important for us to allow local and state experts to develop their own standards that recognize the things that make each classroom and each student unique.

As your representative in the federal government, I believe we must get Washington out of the way and leave it to the states to decide their curriculum, school vouchers, and school choice policies.

School districts in California, Oregon, New Jersey, and New York are now partnering with Planned Parenthood, the country’s largest abortion provider, to provide health services to students. Some of these schools are located only a few blocks from full Planned Parenthood centers.

Our school health centers should be a place of healing and education for students. They shouldn’t be used as a tool to advocate for abortion, and certainly not with federal taxpayer dollars.

October 29, 2014 Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) reminded students today that the deadline to submit applications to his office for military academy nominations is November 15, 2014:

“I am honored to nominate outstanding young students from Texas’ 19th District each year to four U.S. service academies: the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy,” Neugebauer said.

The Child Tax Credit Improvement Act of 2014 adjusts the child tax credit to account for recent inflation and eliminates our current tax code’s marriage penalty by adjusting the threshold for married couples to qualify for the credit.  This allows more parents to access this important benefit.

February 3, 2014 Key Vote

I voted in favor of the GI Bill Tuition Fairness Act  to strengthen our commitment to our troops and honor their service.  This bill will help provide our soldiers with the tools they need to successfully transition back into civilian life.  Under this bill, all veterans will qualify to pay in-state tuition across America - in all of the 50 states they've worked so hard to defend.  It' will allow them to choose the best school for them without having to worry about high costs.

Balancing the Budget to Grow our Economy

This week, I’ll be voting to support the House Republican plan to balance our federal budget in ten years. House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan and the members of his committee have created a plan to rein in government spending, ensure a secure retirement for our seniors, and preserve opportunities for all Americans.
