Congressman Pitts Reacts to Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt SCOTUS Ruling

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Joe Pitts (PA-16) made the following statement in reaction to the Supreme Court's 5 - 3 decision today to overturn Texas's requirement that abortionists have admitting privileges to a hospital within thirty miles of where an abortion is performed and that abortion clinics maintain the same health and safety standards as an outpatient surgical center.

“The Supreme Court’s ruling today puts women at even further risk when they walk into an abortion clinic, and it completely ignores concerns about abortionists like Kermit Gosnell who run despicably filthy and unsafe clinics to take advantage of vulnerable women. Texas’s law to require doctors performing abortions to have local admitting privileges and abortion centers to meet the same standards as outpatient surgical centers is completely common sense and pro woman. Women deserve to know they are safe when they go in for any kind of surgery, period.”
